The Structural of News Item
Definition
In English, "news" means news. Of course this is
familiar to us. Some English experts define the text of news items as follows:
“News items is a text that informs
the readers about newsworthy or important events of the day.”
News item text is a text that informs readers
about daily events that are newsworthy or important. Newsworthy means to be
reported, so not all events can be reported. Only important events or events
are newsworthy. If the incident / incident is not important then it is not
suitable to be reported and known by many people.
Purpose of News Item

Tujuan news items text adalah untuk menginformasikan
pembaca tentang peristiwa/kejadian sehari-hari yang layak untuk diberitakan
atau penting. Dan kejadian yang diberitakan biasanya adalah kejadian atau
peristiwa terbaru.
Generic Structure
- Main Event/Newsworthy Event: is the headline, the part
that tells a summary of an event or important event that happened.
- Background Event/Elaboration: tell in detail the
background of the event or event that occurred, who was involved, where
and how the event occurred.
- Source: the last part of the news
item text structure, is the source of the news can be a source statement,
witness comments, expert opinions, or statements from relevant parties of
an event.
Characteristics of News Item Text
In every English text of the News Text Item type, there are
linguistic characteristics as follows:
- Brief information is contained
in the main header
- Focus on events
- Use action verbs
- Using material processes
Example
Main Event : Jakarta officially extended its period of
